Day 17

Center Village / 5468796 Architecture

Hello people,
Hope you're having beautiful dreams.
I know it's  3 am again
But bear with me because Today's project has a plot twist.

The project takes place in the central park neighborhood in Winnipeg, Canada. This place is known as the starting point for immigrants and refugees. It's culturally diverse and holds affordable and social houses. The neighborhood life condition is very low, because of the low income and high rate of crime.
I think you understood the social and cultural context of the place.

Well, Let's get into the project.

The need for social housing has led the priest of the church to start a cooperative company, where they partnered with another company to build this project.
Originally, the site was to build six single houses, but for the company to afford it, the units should be raised to accommodate 25 families.
The architect's major challenge was how to balance the high-density apartments while still keeping most of the ground floor for public space. Their strategy was to create narrow house units through diverse room modules and stack them vertically. At the time they created two public spaces - courtyard and alley-.

Well, the plot twist is that this design resulted in low-conditioned interior spaces, as one resident reported " It's like living in a small box, there is not enough space for circulation". The courtyard and the alleys that were designed in no direct sightings are now spaces for people to drink, pick up fights, and use drugs.

In this project, we see that the architects didn't understand the needs of the community, nor the social context and got stuck chasing how to build more small spaces

Day 9

Friendship Hospital Satkhira / Kashef Chowdhury/URBANA hello people, First, let give ArchDaily a thanks note for their featured building today. After hopeless days finally, today's building is interested. It was my first time reading about a building in Bangladesh. Finding this beautiful hospital in a rural area has raised a small hope inside me.  Z. note : Today I tried an alternative method in reading the project, I tried to find the principles behind the structure, developing principles that are related to the context of the site and the function of the building could be really critical, but,  you know,  that is the fun part of the design process.  Z. note:  I used a more diagrammatic representation method today. Although I really enjoyed you guys my ghost army and although I started this blog for myself. The need for people's approval is pushing me to promote this blog by opening an Instagram page. Well, let's get into the project. The 8 bedrooms hospital si...

Day 8

Whitney Museum / Marcel Breuer Hello guys, Today I was so busy, designing a fence for a rich Arab, therefore I wasn't able to start yet, but I have already chosen the topic earlier this day, so let's see what can we produce at this hour.  Since I was a kid I never liked museums. The exhibited elements always made me feel sad, maybe because I come from a background of a group of people crying on the glories of the past, which subconsciously made me hate anything that reminds me of the past. Well, we will never know. Earlier this day, I was attending an online lecture about the center Pompidou, the professor reflected how in this museum the exhibited elements are not tangible stuff, but It was the different kinds of activities, events, and people that were brought together from different spaces in the city. Here we see a spectacle of the mass and their daily lives. What affected me here that the museum is not necessarily a closed envelope of lost moments, but more a part of our ...

Project 71 - The Floating Church

The Floating Church / Denizen Works ➨  Function : Church ➨  Location:  London, England ➨  Area:  45 m2 Hello sad people Don't lose your hope.  Today's project is a little different, It doesn't have a site but a mission, It's a boat that aims to connect community centers along the canal, every 5 years the boat will change its site and will sail in front of one of the 5 community centers that take place along the canal. The boat interior was designed in a way to adopt different events such as a church, art classes, and live music events. Most of the interior's details and cladding materials were inspired by the sail's stitching.  References:  Archdaily Enable Ginger Cannot connect to Ginger Check your internet connection or reload the browser Disable in this text field Edit Edit in Ginger Edit in Ginger × Enable Ginger Cannot connect to Ginger Check your internet connection or reload the browser Disable in this text field Rephrase Rephrase curre...
