Shikor, A Country House - 2 / Spatial Architects
Hello strangers,
hope we become friends.
Today was the big day, After 30 days of posting privately, I exposed this blog and this challenge to the world. As it's too soon to expect people to follow this blog, I can continue my nagging habit. It was a very busy and stressful day, that's why I couldn't research enough the traditional Bengali house design as I promised yesterday, but I did found some exciting information so let's start
As I read, the house building in rural areas in Bangladesh is a seasonal event. After the monsoon and harvest season people start by:
1- creating land or a mound
2- establishing it using vegetation
3- building the first structure and the plinth
4- enlarging the surroundings by creating ponds, tanks, canals, and drains
5- building the walls using mud or bamboo
6- adding the bamboo-based roof
Another important aspect of the Bengali house design is the layout. generally, the layout is a small room - huts - surrounding a courtyard creating L-shape, U-shape, and parallel shape layout.
The function is separating the house into two courts, Inner women's domain court consists of intimate functions such as bedrooms and kitchen, Outer men's domain court consists of social function such as the living room and Kachari (guest lounge).
