Hello people,
Hope you're doing great.
Today we'll be starting a new series on this blog in which I'll be searching, reading, and analyzing unknown important buildings in the Arab world.
Let's start.
Today we will be starting with a very precious project from morocco, a thermal bath complex that was built in Sidi Harazem that is known for its hot springs. The site has been used as a place for alternative medicine and touristic distention since the Romanian.
Site plan |
After declaring the independence of Morroco in 1956, the new government aimed to built different sites for attracting tourists while preserving its national identity, One of these sites was the thermal complex, the complex was built in 1960 by the Morrocan architect Jean-François Zevaco, Zevaco designed the complex in the inspiration of the European brutalism in a local way.

So what does it mean European brutalism in a local way?
Well, at that time modernism was promoted as a break from the country's colonial past, so in the complex design, we can see many modern elements such as the elevated hotel, the cantilevered shades, and the circular pool. At the same time, Zovaco succeded in nestling these elements around a riad which is a traditional Morrocan courtyard, along with the public space elements such as the plants and the water. the Morrocan oasis was a combination of international and national elements.
